In‑store accessibility

Our purpose is to change lives through better sight and hearing. We do this by promising to make expert care affordable and accessible to all.

Your experiences in‑store

Our stores are designed to cater to a wide range of needs. Layouts can vary from store to store ‑ test rooms and counter areas may differ in size and space.

Navigating the Store

Most stores offer step‑free entry and wide pathways for easy navigation for people using mobility aids or needing extra space.

You’ll also find:

  • Comfortable seating areas where seats have back and arm rests.

  • Glasses are displayed at different heights and arranged systematically by frame shape.

  • Section markers present to help easily locate different sections and products.

  • Signage created with accessibility in mind.

  • Well‑lit pathways and aisles.

  • Mirrors available at different heights to try on glasses frames.

Eye examinations

Eye examinations take place in well‑lit, quiet rooms, and our equipment can be adjusted to suit different physical requirements. During your test, the lights may be dimmed, but you’ll always have a seat.

Eye examinations involve:

  • A quick puff of air onto your eyes.

  • A bright flash of light into your eyes.

Both are painless and over in seconds.

Hearing screeners

Specsavers can take care of both your eyes and ears, so your journey may include a 3‑minute screening test to give us an indication of any potential hearing loss.

The screening test involves:

  • Use of an iPad.

  • Noise‑cancelling headphones.

Should further examination be needed, you will be invited to do a hearing assessment.

Hearing assessments

Full hearing assessments are conducted in a well‑lit, quiet room, utilising a soundproof booth for maximum accuracy.

The assessment may involve:

  • Examination of the ears using a light and a magnifier.

  • Listening to different beeps and whistles to measure your hearing levels.

  • Listening to words and sentences to measure your communication ability.
