How does arthritis affect the eye?
Answer:
In arthritis various tissues of the body become inflamed causing pain and stiffness. In some cases the tear glands become inflamed causing the production of tears to decrease. Normal tear production bathes the eye, washes out irritants and keeps the eye moist. If the eye is not bathed in tears the eye will feel itchy, red and irritated.
