Drops may be instilled in the eye to enlarge or dilate the pupil, which affords a clearer view of the inside of the eye.

There may be a temporary effect of blurred close vision if the optometrist has put drops into your eyes but this should wear off in a few hours. Driving should be avoided until this effect has passed and you should wear sunglasses if the sun is shining.
