Most optical extras reset at the end of the year, so make sure you get the best value you can from your optional extras before December 31.
While eye tests are often covered by Medicare, prescription glasses and contact lenses aren't. But with optical extras you can get rebates or discounts on many optical products and services at Specsavers.
Find your health fund to see what offers you’re eligible for.
Extras cover is not unlimited. Each policy has a maximum benefit it will pay for specific extras like optical, each year. It's important to note that you can make a claim at any time of the year, however any unused benefits from the previous calendar year won't roll over into the new year. Some funds optical extras reset at the end of each calendar year but others end of the financial year. Check with your fund when your optical extras reset.
Your entitlements like 'no gap' or percentage discounts will depend on which health fund you're insured with and your level of cover.
Just as policies vary between insurers, so do levels of cover. If you have a basic policy, your annual optical rebate limit will be lower than someone with a comprehensive policy. Whatever your limit is, once you reach it, you'll need to wait for the policy to reset before claiming again.
