Viral conjunctivitis usually gets better without treatment. Bacterial conjunctivitis often gets better without treatment within a couple of weeks, but it can be treated with antibiotics. Allergic conjunctivitis can be treated with anti-allergy medications. In the vast majority of cases, conjunctivitis is a mild condition which poses no threat to the eye or vision. Contact lenses should not be worn until the symptoms have gone completely. NOTE: Seek medical/optometric attention if the symptoms are marked or persistent.
