Help and frequently asked questions

Can I swim in my contact lenses?

Answer:

No. This is due to several reasons; Firstly, the contact lens could be washed out of your eye. Secondly, the lenses would absorb the bacteria and chemicals present in the swimming pool which will remain in contact with your eyes until the lenses are removed leading to discomfort and possibly infection.

As an alternative you could wear prescription swimming goggles which are available through your optometrist. If you spend a great deal of time in the water, for example playing water sports, you could have a special contact lens made, called a 'scleral lens, which covers the whole front of the eye. However they can only be worn for a limited period and therefore are rarely prescribed.
