What is the cause of retinitis pigmentosa?


The causes of retinitis pigmentosa are not clearly understood, however, there is some evidence that it is inherited. Because it is an inherited disorder, it can affect other members of the patient's family. However there are a number of isolated cases with no genetic pattern and some cases are so mild they may go undetected.
