How to troubleshoot hearing aids

If you find that your hearing aids aren’t working properly, not producing sound or the sound is muffled, try some simple techniques listed below. After each step, test if the hearing aid is working by cupping the hearing aid in your hand. If you hear a whistling sound, your hearing aid is producing sound and is ready for use.

  1. Restart the device by opening and closing the battery door.
  2. Replace the battery, open the battery door, and remove the battery. Place a new battery in the door and close the door, making sure it is firmly shut.
  3. Clean the hearing aid, by wiping the hearing aid using a clean dry cloth. Using the brush provided with your hearing aid, gently remove wax or debris from the device.
  4. Replace the filter. If you are not comfortable changing the filter, visit an audiology professional in store and they will assist you with this.

  3. Clean the earmold and tubing. Wipe the hearing aid using a clean dry cloth. Using the brush provided with your hearing aid, remove any wax or debris from the earmould and main device.
  4. If there is any wax in the tubing of the ear mould, detach the tube from the body of the hearing aid and carefully clean it out with a blower tool like this one. or by gently blowing through the tubing. Reattach the earmold to the device.
